That took a bit of finding from the link because it's posted under "Blogs". I think this link might take you straight there:

Looks like another shameless plug from one of the aa faithful placemen in the press.

"Dear Friend, you don't know me, but I know you……..I know, I've been there…."

I think I can guess which of the two job descriptions he lists for himself is the one he thinks of as his true vocation, assistant editor or recovering alcoholic?

  • ez

sadly, I couldn't find a way to leave a comment.

  • AndyM

It seems a bit like zealotry beyond the call of duty to try to conscript new members like this when his paper already lists aa and na meetings. Maybe attendance figures are down locally? This guy is even seems to be suggesting people bully their relatives into attending.

  • Eddie Spaghetti

I love how he opens right away with this condesending line of bullshit "Most addicts, the ones who are still getting high anyway, probably don’t read the newspaper."

  • Eddie Spaghetti

I wonder how many guys this guy had to blow?

"You do desperate things … ugly things … that go against every value you hold dear, praying that the drugs or alcohol will help you forget and knowing that, when they wear off, the guilt will only add to the misery and you’ll feel even more worthless than before."

  • Mike

EdSpag: "I wonder how many guys this guy had to blow?"

Yeah. Looking at the guy's picture I get the feeling both his looks and demeanor made him the goto guy for bullies in high school . Sad, because he's now channeling the bullying to others by means of 12 step cajoling. My guess is that there are a ton of neuroses buried deep in the dude's psyche. Bill W's true legacy. Sad.

    I posted:

"After all, what do you have to lose? "

Considering that AA does not improve on the rate of natural remission and results in a higher mortality rate, I'd say a person could lose quite a bit.

AA teaches people that they cannot get sober on their own, this is a lie. The NIAAA’s 2001–2002 National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions interviewed over 43,000 individuals. Using the criteria for alcohol dependence found in the DSM-IV:

"About 75 percent of persons who recover from alcohol dependence do so without seeking any kind of help, including specialty alcohol (rehab) programs and AA. Only 13 percent of people with alcohol dependence ever receive specialty alcohol treatment."

Speaking of twelve step shills, Carole Bennett has another entry up on HuffPo.

Carol should be held under psych evaluation for the foreseeable future.

Carole Bennett: "For the budding alcoholic/addict in recovery, relapse is all too often a nanosecond away."

What? A nanosecond? That's some mighty fast drinkin' there, even for "recovery" pros.

The only good thing about this writer is that she sounds so smarmily full of shit that she makes AA look bad all by herself.

  • Rick, Thanks for posting the Bennett link. I saw her post up today, and I went and crawled under a rock. I just didn't have the stomach to read it. Howlermonkey, Bennett is the mother of all passive aggression. I don't know if you were around for these: http://stinkin-thinkin.com/search/carole+bennett

I just can't begin to express the contempt I have for this woman. I fully suspected this daughter was badly abused as a child when I read, "Lucy was adopted and from an early age starting pulling out her hair." Well loved children just don't do that. If I had a mother like that I would be addicted to every drug imaginable and probably would not have lived to 21. I'm outraged and feeling really quite ill! There is so much wrong here. And she tried to pass herself off as "with an empathetic touch, yet still an unbiased, professional tone." And those steppers thought this was all right??? WTF???

  • AnnaZed

@ causeandeffect: Yes, she's a real AlAnon prize isn't she. She actually takes the AlAnon prize. She calls her child a "garbage pail" on an internet site read by millions and wonders why other family members think she's a bad mother while simultaneously shilling for her pathetic self-published book and trolling for therapy clients, sick ~ really sick.
